about

Words written by Gideon Kakabin.

Sung by Sikut Matupit Choir - Esau Jack, Ronnie Roland, Benson Lukara, Raybon David, Sam Duba, Rex Lessy, Nigel Penias, Donald Lessy.

“Rabaul was part of the Neu Guinea Kompagnie up until the the beginning of WW1. The first military engagement for Australia and loss of life was at Bitapaka, Rabaul, September 11,1914. “Six Australians and one German soldier died. However, the great tragedy is that we do not know the identity of the 30 New Guinea soldiers who died at Bitapaka. We also do not know where they were buried and we have never built a monument to their memory. In 2014, after 100 years of deafening silence, we held a small ceremony to remember them at the Kabakaul rubble wharf”
