A song written to commemorate the centenary of the opening skirmish of WW1 where Australian troops landed at Kabakaul and took on the Germans at Bitapaka near Herbertshore.
“Before, the Germans occupied our land, and when the Australians came to take their place and the two groups fought, we villagers sat and watched, taking no part. Now that you Japanese have come to take the place of the English, we are again sitting and watching. Now you are asking us to help you fight the Australians and the Americans. This is all I have to say “You have aeroplanes, rifles and bombs. These things are not produced from our soil and we do not know how to use them…. Our answer is NO” Tolai luluai (chief)
